Valley Dad’s Favorite Stuff for Newborns

Valley Dad’s Top Baby Product for Newborns

I am often asked about what different products such as strollers or bottles we use for our 4-month old twins. Our 5 year old was our testing ground for a lot of these proudcts so a lot of my recommendations have stayed the same since she was born but I have thrown in a few updated items as well.

So here some of my Top Baby Products for Newborns:

Dr. Brown bottles

My daughter and now twins never had colic or very bad gas and in part I want to attribute this to the Dr. Brown bottles we use at feeding time. They never latched on so we have to bottle feed. We looked at all the different brands out there but what caught our eye was their main selling point that they are designed to “reduces colic, spit up, burping and gas” and that they were BPA free and dishwasher safe. These are easily my most recommended product as nothing is worse than a baby with an upset stomach.

Chicco Key Fit Car Seat System

Go to any Toys R us or Target and you will find the Chicco Car Seat System. It is basically a click-and-go system for the baby car seat that easily transitions from the stroller to the car. I think the pricing is very middle of the road and it isn’t as expensive as Britax while having a lot more bang for the buck.

Summer Infant SwaddleMe Blankets

This one product will probably be the biggest lifesaver for those of your with newborns. At the hospital, the nurses will teach you how to swaddle your baby using an everyday blanket. SwaddleMe blankets makes this a million time easier using some velcro and an easy fold right, then fold left technique. Swaddles are a lifesaver as it wraps the baby up like a burrito (much like in the womb) and creates a snug and comfortable enviroment that helps them sleep. And when the baby is sleeping, then you can be sleeping too.

Aiden + Anais Muslin Cotton Blankets

These are a much nicer, lightweight, breathable blanket that can be used as a swaddle as well. I much prefer the SwaddleMe blankets above but my wife really likes the Aiden + Anais brand as the designs on the material are much more hip and it has multiple uses as a blanket, burp cloth, and sun shade on the strollers. They are a little pricey but good deals can be found online or on their site.

Angel Care Monitor

One of our favorite tech toys and definite must-haves for peace of mind is our Angel Care monitor. Underneath the baby mattress is placed a motion pad that senses the rise and fall of the baby’s breathing as well as an audio monitor to hear any sounds the baby makes. We combined this with a video camera as part of a threefold system on watching our babies as they sleep. It may seem like overkill but it really gave us a worry free nights knowing that our babies were not choking or stopped breathing.

This is our setup with our first child and current twins:

Summer Infant Day and Night Handheld Color Video Monitor

Angel Care must have been reading my mind because they now offer the full trifecta of video/audio/motion:
